Should I Be Watering Grass During Hot Weather?

Watering Grass & Hot Summer Weather

During very hot weather many people turn to watering grass in their garden but this isn’t always advised. To effectively water your lawn in comparison to normal weather conditions where it may rain for large parts of the day it would require you leave a garden sprinkler on for most of the day so that it gets a good soaking down to the deeper roots and this really isn’t practical for most people and really isn’t very environmentally friendly and definitely not advised during hose pipe bans.

should i be watering grass

It is generally advised to avoid cutting your grass or at least raise the cutting height of your lawn mower during hot conditions and the lawn is discoloured, allow the grass cuttings to fall back onto the lawn rather than collecting them as this can act as a barrier and prevent moisture evaporating keeping the grass wetter.

If you feel as though you really do need to water your lawn then it is advised to do so during the cooler parts of the day and out of direct sunlight, probably early morning between 6:00 am to 7:00 am and 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm or later.
