Important Note on Moisture
Worms need a moist environment to survive, but too much moisture can be deadly. Excess liquid from decomposing food – commonly called worm juice or leachate – can build up in the bin. Without proper drainage, this can cause your worms to drown. Most worm bins are designed with a drainage system or spout to collect this liquid, which should be emptied regularly.
Bonus: diluted worm juice makes an excellent natural fertiliser for plants.
